Link Building for Flooring Websites
Link building is probably the most challenging aspect of Search Engine Optimisation but it shouldn’t be ignored. In this helpful guide we will explain how link building works, why it is important and what you can do to improve your back link profile.
As discussed in our previous article SEO for Flooring Websites, we touched on a few on-page and off-page ranking factors. Things like keyword research, local SEO and content creation are all tasks that can be done by the the website owner but building authoritative links back to your content requires a bit of skill.
Despite all the Google algorithm updates the one thing that hasn’t changed much is the power of back links to your website. If you are to succeed with SEO you need to build links to your website as this improves the authority and trustworthiness of your website. You need to be careful that spammy and low-quality websites aren’t linking to your content as it could do more harm than good.
How important are back links for SEO?
Moz.com surveyed over 150 leading search marketers who gave their expert opinions on over 90 potential ranking factors. The Search Engine Ranking Factors report showed that domain-level link features and page-level link features are the top two ranking factors that have the most benefit. Keywords and content factors (On Page SEO) are not far behind in terms of ranking factors but on-page SEO is easier to manage as they are under the website owners control.
How can you build links to your website?
If you are starting out with an SEO campaign we strongly recommend you start with On-Page SEO factors first and then focus on building links to your content. If your website looks unprofessional or isn’t mobile-friendly you could find this increases the likelihood of people pressing the back button, which is tracked by Google as a “bounce”. The more people who visit your website and click the back button the worse your rankings are likely to be.
When we worked with V4 Wood Flooring, they had a store locator that allowed visitors to search over 700 flooring websites to find their nearest V4 dealership. Your first port of call is to check you are listed on supplier websites as this can give your business more exposure and a link that comes from relevant and authoritative websites.
Guest Blog Posts
Writing guest blog posts is the best way to get links to your website but there is a significant investment of time to succeed in this area. Guest blogging focuses on writing blog posts on topics related to your flooring business and getting them published on websites that are related to the flooring industry. Normally you will be able to include links to other resources that are beneficial to the reader and you can either include a link to your website inside the article or inside your author bio at the bottom of the article. If your blog post is approved you could get an increase in traffic to your website as a result.
Get Involved on Forums
Forums are great if you can dedicate a bit of time to answer questions and advise people on the best options for flooring. You can add links in your comments where appropriate but we would suggest you focus on providing great answers as these can often be up-voted by other forum users giving your comment more visibility.
Creating content to earn links
The biggest issue with many small business link-building efforts is the mindset in which they are approached. If you can change the way you think about link building, you can get a strategic advantage that will help you stand out from the competition.
- You need to create something that is worthy of being linked to
- You then simply connect what should be connected
It is important to understand that we are not trying to artificially increase your back link profile as this has led to companies receiving a manual penalty and a drop in rankings. Your main aim should be to create content or a tool that sets you apart from your competition and naturally earns links over time.
There are services out there where you can buy links from other websites – as tempting as this is we strongly recommend you don’t use these services. You often find the links you buy come from websites that are not related to your flooring company and worse still they could put links on dodgy websites, which could reflect badly on your company.
